TClipper
SHORT INTRODUCTION TO TABLANE TCLIPPER

If you save Web content by pasting Web pages into MS Word or Notepad, and then find it hard to remember where you’ve put stuff, TClipper is here to help.

TClipper lets you save, organize and find Web content again. You can cut and paste content from any browser into TClipper. Content is stored as Pages in Collections. These Pages can be tagged, and moved more easily than existing folder based systems

The Collection

  • The Collection is at the heart of TClipper. It is a group of Pages which you put together.

  • To make a New Collection click on this from the top right menu

  • This will let you name a new Collection and give it a short description if you wish. You can also decide whether you want to make a New Folder to put the Collection in.

  • In My Collections on the left of the TClipper window, TClipper folders look like a small filing cabinet:

  • A Collection inside a Folder looks like this:

The Page

  • There are two ways to make a New Page.

  • To make a New Page in the same Collection, click on in the bottom left corner of the TClipper window.

  • To make a New Page in a new Collection, click on from the top right menu

  • You can add your own content to a Page, or you can copy in material from the Web.

  • Where you cut and paste copy into a Page from a Web site, if you are using Firefox, Internet Explorer or Tablane, the URL or Web site address will be included in the content as a record of where it came from.
Currently, images are not stored off-line in Pages. So, if you are not connected to the Internet, when you look at a Page again, the image spaces will be blank. We will fix this soon.

Saving Pages

  • Once you have changed the page title here: , point and click on the body of the Page. This will automatically save the Page content.

  • Any other time you need to save the Page, click on from here;

  • However, if you click on the title of another Page in a Collection, any changes to a Page will also be saved automatically.

Editing Pages

  • You can add or edit content in Pages as you wish.

  • We have included some standard text editing tools, which you will be familiar with from other programs:

Browsing Pages

  • Let's say we have a Collection called Receipts. In this case, each Page is an individual invoice for Google from our AdWords account. We can browse these, either by click on items in this list:

  • Or, we can use the back and forward buttons from the top menu:

Tag a Page

Tagging a Page means associating some keywords with a particular Page. These tags can be used in combinations across different Pages whether they are in the same Collection or not. This helps build up context relationships between Pages. So, for example, we might tag Pages in the Collection above, google receipt expenditure.

The Tagging pages can be found buttons in the the bottom right corner of the TClipper window. The best way to get to grips with tagging is just to give is a go. Any tags can easily be deleted, changed or added.

You can also label a Page by clicking on the faint square box beside the Page title This reveals a choice of labels with which you can mark a Page:

The resulting Collection of Pages can look like this:

Moving Pages

  • If you want to move a Page to another Collection, you can select this: from beside the Page Title field. It will change to and you can then move the Page to another Collection in the list that appears.

  • Another way to do this is simply to click on the Page Title in the Collection Pane, and drag it to another Collection in the list. This is easiest to do when the Collection list and the Page list are side by side. You can arrange the TClipper window like this by clicking on beside the Collection’s title, as in

E-mail Pages

  • Pick a Page, then click on from . If you are using MS Outlook Express as you e-mail software, the page will appear as an attachment, with the correct title. In some other e-mail software, the title of the attachment will be a temporary name.
We are working on enabling you to e-mail a whole Collection.

Searching Pages

  • There are a number of different ways to search Pages in TClipper.

  • To search for keywords in the title of a Collection, select from

  • You can also select the Tags item from here: . If you have been adding tags to your documents, this is a good way to display the combinations of documents produced by searching for one or more tags at a time.
Techniques to enable you to search the content of your Pages are also being developed.

Collections and the Tablane Browser

  • Any Collection you make in TClipper can also be viewed in the Tab lane Browser.

  • Check out this: from the Tablane Browser main menu

  • At the bottom of the Collection Pane that appears, you will see these:

  • These let you change how you view a list of Collections, search them, organize their content and view them as a Web page.

  • Collections can also include bookmarks, which can be added to Collections via the Tablane Browser.

  • To add a bookmark to a Collection, when viewing a Page, click on from the main menu
